Driving
big cars and Ecotourism
The
future of Driving big cars and Ecotourism
Part of the
tourism experience these days seems to be the
adventure experience. Getting off the beaten track
and going where nobody else goes. Hooking up the
trailer to your 4x4 and driving off into the sunset
in a cloud of smoke. Even some of the "so
called" ecotourism holidays are based on
a large vehicle in the middle of the desert or
frozen wastes. All this is using up excessive
fuel. But at the moment, it's a bit of a conundrum
as you can't get to where you want to go without
jumping into one of these gas guzzlers !!
The development
of fuel efficient cars is moving at a fast pace
- this has to be applauded. High carbon footprint
vehicles should all be very heavily taxed to force
users to think again. As an ecotourist, you may
wish to consider whether what you a doing is the
right thing to do for the environment.
Barack Obama
- YES YES YES - as at today (May 2009) you have
made a commitment that at some future deadline
(not yet sure when !!) all new cars on US roads
to use a minimum of 39 mpg and all new light trucks
(whatever they turn out to be !!) to use a minimum
of 30 mpg - FANTASTIC - YES
Driving
big cars and Ecotourism - select the most fuel
efficient
It is possible
to travel from A to B in a vehicle with a smaller
sized engine, so when you need to hire a vehicle,
go for the smallest car and the most modern. Older
cars are less fuel efficient. Older big engined
cars are the most polluting. I hate to see those
big old carburated engined vehicles on the road
these days, when more efficient and less polluting
fuel injected computer controlled engined cars
are available.
