Snow Leopard endangered species

be advised - snow leopard watching will be dangerous

Well known for its beautiful fur, the Snow Leopard has a soft grey coat with ringed spots and rosettes of black on brown. The fur turns white in the winter. Its tail is heavy with fur and the bottom of its paws are covered with fur for protection against snow and cold. The life span of a Snow Leopard is normally 15-18 years, but in captivity they can live up to 20 years.

The Snow Leopard is an endangered species. The total estimated wild population of the Snow Leopard is between 3,500 and 7,000 individuals. In addition, there are 600-700 animals in zoos around the world. The Snow Leopard is an endangered species whose pelts command a very high price in the fur market. During the 1960s, the Snow Leopard's total population went down to 1,000 animals, but has since recovered slightly.

I found a few snow leopard watching holiday packages at responsibletravel.com including snow leopard tracking holidays, Snow leopard conservation volunteer work, Altai, Pakistan and Snow leopards & festivals in Pakistan.

What do Snow Leopards do in the summer ? you can join a number of organisations that are helping to conserve the snow leopard - also here

Snow leopards live in the high, rugged mountains of Central Asia. Their range extends through twelve countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. So, to go snow leopard watching is going to be difficult. This would be a real tough assignment for your travel agency ! So, if watching video clips of snow leopards at Utube is not enough, then you are going to need to very, very carefully plan your trip to even survive, let alone think of it as a holiday Snow Leopard watching.
