The
real story of Climate Change & Ecotourism
This is where
I wish to express my personal views on how ecotourism
is causing climate change and other bad effects
on the environment. I have already outlined in
other pages of this site, some eco-unfriendly
activities including the impact of air
flights, driving
cars with too big an engine, space
flight and the use of too
much fertiliser.
I have also
pointed out the main
offending countries and what they are not
doing about it. These are direct actions that
are happening now and are responsible for polluting
the environment, adding carbon gases and accelerating
global warming.
Everyone is
talking about Climate Change - is it really happening
and is it really something to worry about ?
Well, if you
are a Polar Bear and your food drifts away on
a lump of melting ice, then yep you should worry
!
If you are
a snow leopard and your beautifully disguised
camouflaged fur sticks out like a sore thumb against
a green snow free background, then boy, you have
a problem !
Animals can't
do anything about climate change, but humans can.
There are some excellent articles about climate
change and global
warming.
Climate
Change & Ecotourism - the human civilisation
It may well
be that climate change happens regularly over
huge cycles of time, but we are actually here
now in this part of a climate change cycle and
we as humans can have a big impact on the rate
of climate change. It should be possible for the
human civilisation to beneficially alter the rate
of climate change - ha ha - how silly, we are
already doing that by burning up all the earth's
fossil fuel and adversely changing the composition
of the atmosphere above us. Why is it that we
as humans, in the name of progress, end up doing
the exact opposite of what we should do best -
well it's called human greed. We all want a better
life for ourselves and our children and continually
compare our progress against others. We don't
know what we want until some clever marketing
campaign tells us to buy it. We are still driven
by a basic survival urge which overshadows compassion.
Are we still animals or are we civilised !!
Climate
Change & Ecotourism - let's just look after
ourselves
Individual
humans will only make individual decisions and
look after themselves and/or their immediate surrounding
"tribe". It requires civilised governments
to impose controls in human society with rules
and laws.
However, individual
countries will similarly act independently like
individual humans and look after their own country,
unless a global government is introduced to impose
the controls needed in this global human society
of ours.
Climate
Change & Ecotourism - Global Intervention
You may not
like the idea - but it is my opinion that individually
we cannot be trusted to do anything about climate
change. Too many comfortably relatively rich individuals
will simply bury their heads in the sand, plead
poverty, plead insanity, plead anything other
than organise themselves into doing anything to
help others. My way of doing something about it
is this website which I hope will change your
thoughts and actions in a positive way.
Climate
Change & Ecotourism - Carbon Trading
I really like
this intervention technique. Carbon
Trading will start in a small way in developed
countries and will cause us all to sit up and
take notice of what is thrown up into the atmosphere
because it will affect our pockets !
Climate
Change & Ecotourism - Summary
It is a conflict
of interests to get on a polluting plane, jump
into a polluting 4x4 vehicle or snow mobile in
order to watch penguins leap of rocks in the Antarctic
regions. All your human desires and needs may
be fulfilled at that moment, but the Penguins
are the ones who will suffer in the short term
through your polluting actions. Tourism and Ecotourism
are not necessary and let's hope that one day
we can experience our ecotour through virtual
technology and not through pollution.
